At my house the red plate comes out whenever we have something to celebrate: a birthday, a milestone (like losing your first tooth), an accomplishment. This week we've had three red plate days in a row!
On Wednesday we celebrated Zach's 18th birthday; today we are celebrating Amy's 15th birthday; and sandwiched in-between the two was a red plate day for me!
Yesterday I received a very exciting phone call: I am one of six finalists in the Romance Writers of America/New England Chapter's (NEC-RWA) First Kiss Contest!
Back in September my friend Jennifer invited me to go to a NEC-RWA meeting. It was there that I learned about the contest. My writing group encouraged me to enter and gave me very helpful feedback on putting together my entry. In mid-October I submitted a ten-page scene (in which the couple of my novel first kiss) plus a one page synopsis of my story. I never dreamed that I would final. Entering the contest was my first step in the scary process of "sending out" my manuscript and receiving professional scoring and feedback.
On Monday my entry (along with the five other finalists) will be forwarded to one of the senior editors at Harlequin/Silhouette. How crazy is that? Woot! Woot!
I need to float over to the kitchen now and bake my daughter's birthday cake. Then, we're going to pile into the car and drive across the state to fulfill my daughter's birthday wish. She wants to go to Dairy Queen, bless her heart <3.
