Knit Along :: Warmth

Yesterday morning it was 28F outside and 58F in the house. There is snow in the forecast today. I broke down and turned on the heat--we didn't make it until Thanksgiving this year like I had hoped, but at least we're warm :- ).

I'm knitting a hat and mittens for Luke. Last year I knit a whole bunch of hats for our troops using a military regulation pattern. All of the boys in my family loved these plain and simple, close-fitting  "Army" beanies, so of course when I told Luke that I was going to knit him a new hat he insisted I make him an "Army" version in blue, his  favorite color. The yarn is Plymouth Select Superwash Merino, and the green is a bit of worsted wool I had on hand.

This week I'm reading, Connecting With Young Children: Educating the Will, by Stephen Spitalny. I like this book, but it's been poorly edited which sometimes distracts me in my reading. Stephen Spitalny is a master Waldorf kindergarten teacher. I do not agree with all of the spiritual aspects of anthroposophy that he presents, but most of what he has to say about human development is thoughtful and accurate to my own experience.

Tuesday was a busy day: I had to go out for blood work early in the morning, then home, breakfast, our usual morning prayer-scripture-singing time, lessons, lunch, an afternoon of birthday shopping for Emmeline who turns twelve on Sunday, supper, then out to vote in the evening,  I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, but other than that the day ahead should be quiet and peaceful with plenty of time for laundry, reading, knitting, making plans for Advent and Christmas, and a game of cards or Parcheesi later on.
