This beauty is growing on the dike at the Pond. It is way over my head--about eight feet tall. It looks like it's growing in the sky :- ) |
First thing: Yesterday I went to my first meeting of the New England Chapter of the Romance Writer's of America (NECRWA). I had a wonderful time, and the meeting far exceeded my expectations in every way. There were about fifty women in attendance, more than half of them were published authors, and some of them are bestsellers: Marissa Doyle, Hannah Howell, Judith Arnold, Kristan Higgins, Patricia Grasso, etc. Each month roses are awarded to those who have had something published since the last meeting. Two roses were awarded this month. At least three women had cover art for their new books to show us. It was VERY encouraging to meet real women who are making an income from writing. (Especially after all of the doom and gloom I have read about the publishing industry on the internet.)
The first half of the meeting was Chapter news and business, and then each person introduced herself and shared about how her current writing project is going. The second half of the meeting was devoted to a fabulous talk entitled, "Creating Memorable Heroes and Heroines", given by bestselling romance author Sarah MacLean.
Gosh, I loved it! I can't wait to go back again next month. I haven't worked on my manuscript in several weeks, but now I am energized to get working on it :- )
The other thing that happened yesterday was that I realized I am not going to have enough yarn to finish my Tea Leaves Cardigan! Somehow--and I have no idea how this happened, because I am so darn good at math (um, I'm being facetious)--I miscalculated the yardage needed for this project by two hundred yards! (So embarrassing to write that.) I found two people on Ravelry who each have one ball of the yarn I am using in the correct dye lot--but it's not for sale. I wonder if I wrote to them and begged, would they help me? I so hate to give up on this project. I'm using Jo Sharp's Silkroad Tweed DK in color 405 Emporio, dye lot 12. If you have a ball of this discontinued yarn laying around, will you sell it to me? (My email is in the sidebar :- )
Have a great Monday!
